"Mission San Juan Capistrano"
linoleum cut, on rice paper, 12" x 9"
1940
Mission San Juan Capistrano was founded in 1776. Construction of a magnificent church began here in 1797. It took 9 years to build and then collapsed only 6 years later in an earthquake. Restoration of the original adobe church began in 1922. The swallows of Capistrano really do return here each year to build their nests in the ruins of the old church.
