"Mission San Francisco Solano"
linoleum cut, on rice paper, 12" x 9"
1940

Mission San Francisco de Solano was founded in 1823. This mission was built with the encouragement of the Governor, who saw it as a buffer between the prosperous Bay Area settlements and the Russians, who had advanced as far down the coast as Fort Ross. It was never sanctioned by the Church authorities. It has been restored and is now a California State Historic Park.
